Social Media Week Tuesday Update

On the second day of Social Media Week here in Hong Kong I chose to attend the sessions on Social Media Marketing with Celebrity Endorsements and Using Social Media Platforms for Branding and Revenues in the Premium Cosmetics and Fine Food Industries. Both of these events will have a write up in the next coming day or two and we really wanted to get some video interviews done but there just wasn’t too much time. But we do have some interviews lined up and will gauge feedback from the attendees as well.

One thing I like about these events is that you hear the success and failure stories of companies with deep pockets that can handle more risks on new marketing campaigns, which means smaller companies can get some good ideas but run them at a smaller scale.

Be on the look out for our upcoming posts as we give you are perspective of what was covered at each event. Instead of giving you a full summary, we will be posting a single idea, strategy, case study that really goes into detail on the message that was being conveyed. We hope this provides a more thorough coverage for those thirsting for the information and who could not make it to these events.

Add a Favicon for WordPress Site

Ever wondered how to create that little icon that shows up at the tabs of your browser? It’s really easy to do if on your WordPress site if it is not already built in your template.

First, take a clean graphic file of your logo and try to make it just an icon type image. If your logo is too long, it won’t look good. To clearly explain it, look at what shows up for Facebook, it’s just the “f”, Twitter it’s the “t”, LinkeIn it’s the “in”. Once you have that go to a site to make it into a Favicon (.ico) file.

Here is a site to reference: http://www.favicon.co.uk/index.php.

Upload your favicon.ico into your WordPress site add the below code inside header.php

(Admin – Appearance > Editor > header.php – this depends on the version of WP you are running.

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://s.wordpress.org/favicon.ico" type="image/vnd.microsoft.icon"/>
<link rel="icon" href="http://s.wordpress.org/favicon.ico" type="image/x-ico"/>

The href tag in the example below shows “http://s.wordpress.org/favicon.ico"in two places. Change this to point to your current location of your favicon image file. If you don’t know where this is located, go to your Media Library and look at the properties for the image.

Here is Favicon we created for this site, which you can see in the browser tab.

The Importance of Search Engine Marketing in Asia

In Hong Kong, China and through out Asia, there are many businesses that depend on SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and SEM (Search Engine Marketing) for their online marketing initiatives. As competition continues to grow for short and long keywords, SEO/SEM is becoming a very costly method of getting traffic to your website. This is the reason why more and more companies are now focusing efforts around Social Media channels for more engagement with customers.

SEO/SEM should be portion of your marketing budget and strategy. There are many SEO strategies that can be used in simple blog, video or photo posts. But to ignore Social Media as an effective strategy is suicide. The reason is that consumers are becoming more and more efficient with where and how they are digesting information and many of these places are found through Social Media channels as well as mobile applications.

The one reason many companies in Asia have not bought into Social Media is because they are too impatient to see the results as the impact and return from Social Media can take some time. The whole strategy behind Social Media is to build a loyal following with credibility from within their customer’s circle of influence. Once this loyalty is built, it’s easier to cross and up sell future products/services.

In summary, any business should be looking at SEO/SEM as a strategy to gain new leads from prospective customers. WIth Social Media, it is to to maintain a high level of customer service with the ability to continue selling with consent, a source of referred prospective customers and the opportunity to gain credibility in a virtual social community.

Digital Intelligence & Strategic Results

Digital Intelligence & Strategic Results

Without proper analysis, your digital marketing initiatives are like shooting a bullet in the dark. Once you understand your customer’s decision making process, you can create strategies that produce results.

Most businesses are focused on the core aspects of doing their job, but still need to focus on other tasks such as accounting, marketing, managing, etc. So when it comes to implementing digital marketing initiatives, what usually happens is that a Buzz is heard about what everyone else is doing, and then jump on. The problem is that not every business should jump on and if they do jump, they should know where they are going.

With Internet Marketing Coach Ltd., the main focus is to use digital analysis in order to track and measure activity that is happening on a website, blog, mobile device or social media channels. With this intelligence, we can then focus on changing or implementing digital marketing initiatives that are within a strict budget.

It’s basically having the service of a mid to large size company without the high price tag.
